LOCATION OF POSITION
DHMH, Office of Health Care Quality, Laboratory Unit, Catonsville, MD
Main Purpose of Job
This position is to inspect, assess and evaluate the quality of laboratory services in medical laboratories, tissue banks, cholesterol test sites, and other related clinical laboratories for Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA)and state licensure. An employee in the classification performs on site surveys of clinical laboratories licensed by the State of Maryland or as required by the Center for Medicare& Medicaid Services (CMS) for the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act to ensure that patients receive quality laboratory services in accordance with State and Federal laws, regulations and guidelines. The incumbent must generate reports of findings and must be able to address inquiries form labs and citizens. This positions must attend periodic trainings for CLIA by CMS and are subject to monitoring by surveyors from CMS. An employee in this classification does not supervise, but may train new surveyors.
MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Genetics, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or Medical Technology from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Two years of experience working in a medical or public health laboratory performing diagnostic or public health testing on human specimens.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
