This is a position specific recruitment for the Department of Natural Resources, Resource Assessment Service (Maryland Geological Survey) - Baltimore, MD.
This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies for this position/function only.
The resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year.

Main Purpose of Job
The Department of Natural Resources, Resource Assessment Service, Maryland Geological Survey, in Baltimore, Maryland, is currently accepting applications for a Geologist II. The primary purpose of this position is to conduct hydrogeologic studies throughout the State of Maryland. The selected candidate will perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: conducting applied research to groundwater quality and quantity; collecting and interpreting geological, geophysical and hydrological data; preparing interpretive reports, maps, data layers, and other products relating to groundwater conditions; interacting with technical professionals at local, state, and federal agencies; and providing hydrogeological information to citizens, businesses, property owners, and other stakeholders.
Note: This position will involve both field and office work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Geology, Environmental Geology or a related earth science.
Experience: One year of experience performing professional geological work.
Note:
1. Possession of a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Geology, Environmental Geology or a related earth science may be substituted for the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in physical science classification or physical science specialty codes in the geology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education. For education obtained outside of the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. If you possess a degree obtained outside of the United States, please submit a detailed, course-by-course evaluation report from one of the U.S. equivalency evaluating members identified at http://www.naces.org/members.htm.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Coursework or experience in groundwater hydrogeology and hydrogeochemistry is preferred.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
2. When assigned to an environmental program at the Department of the Environment, employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete and maintain certification as specified in the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration Regulations (Standards-29 CFR) 1910.120 Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response. Information about these regulations is available in the Human Resources Office of the Maryland Department of the Environment or may be obtained at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Website.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Employees in this classification may be required to walk over rough or unstable terrain or over long distances while wearing personal protection equipment, such as respiratory protection equipment.
2. Employees in this classification may be subject to ongoing medical testing in accordance with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration Regulations (Standards - 29 CFR) 1910.120 Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response.
3. Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in on a twenty-four hour basis and, therefore, will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached or carry an electronic pager.

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
