Main Purpose of Job

The incumbent will act as an assistant in maintenance to the Maintenance Supervisor I in the maintenance and repair of all mechanical systems. The scope of the are includes 175+ acres of land and 43 separate buildings.

POSITION DUTIES

Performs facility maintenance repairs and reoccurring work in the areas of plumbing, steam fitting, heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

Performs repair duties as required.

Estimates the time and materials required to complete projects.

Perform daily system checks and perform system programming and updates.

Performs updates and/or create reoccurring work and maintenance scheduling.

Performs maintenance of electrical, mechanical and sanitary systems while tending boilers.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of eighth grade.

Experience: Two years of experience in a boiler room facility tending a boiler.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute additional licensed stationary engineering experience on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience as a non-commissioned officer in Steelworker classifications or Mechanical Maintenance specialty codes in the Metal Fabrication, Assembly, Installation, and Repair field of work on year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Working knowledge in the practical applications and the principles of electrical and mechanical equipment generally utilized in plant maintenance.

Experience with newer digitized boiler and HVAC operating and power systems. 

Ability to adjust heating, ventilation and air conditioning through energy management system computer to control the temperature, humidity and circulation of air throughout buildings.

Experience supervising and maintaining a preventative maintenance program for a wide variety of building and mechanical equipment.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a secret clearance.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification must possess and maintain a current license as a Stationary Engineer, First Grade from the State Board of Stationary Engineers.

Employees in this position must obtain and maintain a State of Maryland Class C driver's license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Some positions in this classification are assigned duties which will require the individual to be examined by a physician. After an offer of employment, applicants for such positions will be given a medical examination to certify the ability to perform the essential job functions.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to random substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulation 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
