LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job

Interview individuals appying for unemployment insurance benefits to obtain the necessary information to process claims in accordance with established guidelines to provide high quality customer focused services that regulate the distribution of unemployment insurance benefits, to support the economic stability of the state.

POSITION DUTIES

-Interview claimants for unemployment insurance benefits, individually by telephone to obtain and record demographic, wage and work information.

-Analyzes information to determine the appropriate claim type for employment insurance benefits.

-Verifies eligibility and ensures prompt payment of benefits.

-Takes initial claims by the evaluation of fact and detects eligibility issues.

-Obtains work and wage information by interviewing claimants and employers.

-Conducts Eligibility Review Interview (ERI) to discuss continuing eligibility for benefits and re-employment assistant by interviewing claimants and examining their work search records for the purpose of evaluating work search efforts and developing a re-employment assistance plan.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from and accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience in unemployment insurance claims taking; or gathering information used to render determinations related to unemployment insurance contributions.

Note: 1. Four years of general clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Human Resources Management classifications or Human Resources Management specialty codes in the unemployment insurance claims or contributions field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This recruitment will be for current UI Intermittent employees (contractual) only and currently working in the Salisbury Claim Center.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Department of Unemployment Insurance (DLLR/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to DLLR/DUI as a result of an unemployment Insurance overpayment and/or fraud. Any unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
