Main Purpose of Job

The Motor Vehicle Operator is the experienced level of work in the operation of automotive transportation vehicles and/or other automotive equipment on a regular basis. This position is responsible for transporting meals (Food Carts), supplies, equipment, medication, lab specimens/reports, mail and other items. All transports must be in a safe, timely and professional manner utilizing vehicles such as a box truck or van. This is a full-time contractual position working 10:30 a.m. to 07:00 p.m.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Completion of the sixth grade.

Experience:  Two years of full-time paid employment in the operation of automotive transportation equipment. It is desirable that this experience shall have included the transportation of passengers.

NOTE:

1.  Additional full-time paid employment operating automotive transportation vehicles may be substituted, on a year-for-year basis, for up to three years of the elementary school education.

2.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Equipment Operator classifications or Equipment Operator and Vehicle Operator specialty codes in the Equipment Operation field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.  Applicants must possess a driver’s license valid in Maryland.  Applicants must list the license number and date of issues on the application.

2.  The work of certain positions in this classification may require that the applicant secure another class of driver’s license prior to appointment. Applicants may also be required to submit a certified copy of their driving records before appointment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated. The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application. Please report all related education, experience, dates and hours of work. For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must accompany the application. All information concerning your qualifications must be submitted by the closing date. We will not consider information submitted after this date.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
