Main Purpose of Job

Under the direction of the Program Manager of Community Education and Health Equity (CEHE), this position will function as a program supervisor for the Community Education and Health Equity Program. In this position, the person will also function as the Tobacco Coordinator for Anne Arundel County by providing direct oversight to grants funded by MD Center of Tobacco Prevention and Control. Programmatic responsibilities for the position include planning, developing, implementing and evaluating community programs for youth and adults and focusing on healthy lifestyles. Specific programs include cardiovascular disease prevention, tobacco use prevention and cessation, and cancer prevention. The position supervises 4 full time positions and assists the Program Manager in oversight of an annual budget of $1.1 million.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Education, Community Health Education or Health Science.

Experience: Two years of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects.

Notes: 

1. Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, Health Science or related behavioral science and three years of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects may be substituted for the required education and experience. A copy of your college transcripts should accompany your application (transcripts may be unofficial.)

2. A Master’s degree in Public Health, Community Health Education, or Health Science may be substituted for the required education and one year of the required experience.

3. A Doctorate in Public Health, Community Health Education, Health Science or Public Health Policy may be substituted for the required education and experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Educator and Community Health classifications or Health Educator and Community Health specialty codes in the Public Health field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate will have experience in preparing and monitoring grant applications, experience in outreach activities associated with tobacco prevention and cessation and experience in public speaking.  

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
