Sandy Point State Park, Annapolis, Maryland (Anne Arundel County)

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service, Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, Maryland is currently accepting applications for a Seasonal Beach Manager. This position will be a 9 month contractual position working up to 20 hours per week in February, March, April and October, 2018 and 40 hours per week May 2018-September 2018. This position provides oversight of Sandy Point State Park beach operations including recruiting lifeguards, creating a training program, adherence to the Sandy Point State Park Waterfront Management Plan, and administrative support including report writing, data collection and maintenance of daily records. Selected candidate will be responsible for oversight of a lifeguard team of approximately nineteen (19) staff members including scheduling, training, equipment management, and report writing. Applicant must have excellent skills in organization and communication. Applicant must be willing to work outdoors in changing environmental conditions and in high stress situations. Position requires working weekends and holidays. Selected candidate must be able to begin work in early February 2018 for recruitment of lifeguard staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience as a certified lifeguard.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualifications.

• Associate's degree or above from an accredited college or university

• Open water lifeguarding experience

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Applicant must be certified by a national agency in Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR, and American Red Cross Lifeguard Management by April 2018. 

Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to operate a 4-wheel-drive vehicle and ATV (all terrain vehicle) on the beach.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a temporary/contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
