Main Purpose of Job

The position develops and implements a communication plan for both the Department of Disabilities and MDTAP along with the communications and outreach team with specific focus and responsibility for MDTAP.  This position plans and implements MDTAP’s general outreach (marketing) and communication (publications, social media) efforts.  Staff also provides general constituent outreach for the Department of Disabilities and MDTAP. 

POSITION DUTIES

The position handles multiple responsibilities within the agency. Staff provides information, guidance and assistance and training on the Americans with Disabilities Act and develops and implements a communication plan for both the Maryland Department of Disabilities (MDOD) and Maryland Technology Assistance Program (MDTAP) along with the communications and outreach team with specific focus and responsibility for MDTAP. This position plans and implements MDTAP's general outreach (marketing) and communication (publications, social media) efforts. Staff also provides general constituent outreach for the Department of Disabilities and MDTAP. The desired candidate should have excellent verbal and written communications skills.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. One year of experience working in a disability support related field and/or knowledge of ADA regulations and guidelines preferred.

2. One year of experience with Microsoft Office applications (ex. Word, Excel, Publisher, etc.)

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
