Introduction

The Maryland Department of Health’s Developmental Disabilities Administration oversees the operation the Potomac Center. The Potomac Center is a State Residential Center and is responsible for the provision of needed services to people who have intellectual disabilities admitted to the facility while working to integrate these people into less restrictive settings in the community.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Potomac Center, Hagerstown, MD

Main Purpose of Job

This recruitment is for multiple positions and shifts within the Potomac Center.

These positions will instruct and direct the provision of outcome-based instructional, leisure and related activities on behalf of individuals with developmentally disabilities. These positions are responsible for implementation of the prescribed treatments and/or services required to carry out the clients individual treatment plans for a cottage or living unit. These positions will design and implement programs to increase individuals' skills in such areas as self-help, socialization, productive leisure time and appropriate interpersonal play and communications.  These positions will review and approve the work of and train lower-level Direct Care Assistants.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours from an accredited college or university with 15 credit hours in health or human services, education or the behavioral sciences.

Experience: One year of experience providing direct client services in a developmental disability or similar behavior modification setting.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute an Associate of Arts or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in the treatment of developmental disabilities in a mental health or closely related curriculum including a supervised clinical practicum in a developmental disability or similar behavior modification setting for the required education and experience.

2. Candidates may substitute additional experience providing rehabilitation services in a developmental disability setting at the rate of one year of experience for 30 credit hours of education.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Hospital Corpsman classifications or Health Care Specialist and Medical Services specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current certificate as a Nursing Assistant from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215. A copy of your certification should accompany your application.

 2. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete training and maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, will be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.
