Main Purpose of Job

This position provides intermediate support and knowledge to the Information & Technology Department at the Maryland State Archives. The incumbent provides assistance in re-designing, testing, implementing and maintaining computer software used both internally and externally to maintain intellectual control over the agency's electronic archival collections.

POSITION DUTIES

The job provides assistance in re-designing, testing, implementing and maintaining computer software used both internally and externally to maintain intellectual control over the Agency’s electronic archival collections. The job monitors cyber security systems for intrusion detections and sql injection attacks. The job monitors application servers for stability, performance and basic security. The incumbent also troubleshoots and corrects programming bugs and other issues identified in testing and production software as needed, developing software solutions and participating in software testing and re-migration as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience converting data from project specifications by developing programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or other development tools.

 Notes:

 1. Experience in one of the following areas: operating computers, scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining backups or data storage, processing data on computers, or evaluating, implementing and maintaining hardware and software may be substituted on a year for year basis for the required education.

 2. Nine credit hours from an accredited college or university in applications programming using generally accepted computer programming languages or other development tools may be substituted for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience building, maintaining and troubleshooting .NET applications and websites

Experience monitoring cyber security systems for intrusion detections and SQL injection attacks

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
