LOCATION OF POSITION

DHMH/Spring Grove Hospital Center, Clinical Unit, Catonsville, Maryland

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide clinical services in psychiatry to patients who are mentally ill, chronically ill or developmentally disabled or are in need of medical and preventive treatment. This position will direct the Units programming towards delivery of psychiatric inpatient services (i.e. evaluation, treatment, discharge and aftercare planning). This position will receive general supervision from a higher level physician or an administrative official, and may supervise health care support staff. This position is considered Emergency Essential.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a degree in Medicine from an accredited college or university.

Experience: As required for certification in an area of medical specialization by an American Medical Association Specialty Board.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Medical Corpsman and Physicians classifications or Nursing or Physician and Medical Services and Special Corpsman Officer specialty codes in the medicine field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires certification by the American Medical Association Specialty Board in the specialty of Psychiatry. Candidates may also have a subspecialty in: Addiction Psychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry or Geriatric Psychiatry.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

2. Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.***Please be sure to include a copy of your current licensure with your completed application.***

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
