Introduction

Maryland Public Television, which is commonly known by its familiar name "MPT", is a public television network that comprises six television stations that broadcast throughout the entire state of Maryland as well as into the District of Columbia and parts of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. MPT is the only state-wide broadcaster in Maryland. MPT is a member of the Public Broadcasting Service.

Main Purpose of Job

The MPT Production Assistant will assist the Road Test team with all aspects of road test segment production, to include prepping and cleaning cars for shoots, driving vehicles for shots, assist with setup and operation of DSLR, slider, GoPro and other specialty cameras and equipment. Research, locate and obtain video, photographs and other media assets from outside sources including internet download and vehicle manufacturer press archives. Assist in organizing and maintaining MotorWeek's video archive. Log footage, assist with podcasts and other areas of the MotorWeek production as needed. Travel to attend press events on behalf of MotorWeek. Contribute to MotorWeek's social media platforms.

This position may require flexible schedules including nights, holidays and weekends. This position may require travel. This position may require working outdoors in adverse weather conditions.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Assist with Road Test team with all aspects of road test segment production, to include prepping cleaning cars for shoots and driving vehicles for shots
  • Assist with setup and operations of DSLR, slider, GoPro and other specialty cameras and equipment
  • Research, locate and obtain video, photographs and other media assets from outside sources including internet download and vehicle manufacturer press archives
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining MotorWeek's video archives
  • Log footage and assist with podcasts
  • Contribute to MotorWeek social media platforms
  • Travel to attend press events on behalf of MotorWeek

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in film, media, mass communications or a related field.

Experience: One year of experience which involves the various aspects of television production such as research, segment production, set-up and operation of DSLR, slider, GoPro and other specialty cameras and equipment.

For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must accompany the application.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a valid driver's license

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent attention to detail and willingness to be creative
  • Working knowledge of video equipment and software a plus
  • Possess strong organizational skills
  • Exhibit strong understanding of social media platforms and trends
  • Possess a strong knowledge of working with computers, email, word processing software and ordinary office equipment
