Main Purpose of Job

The Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control (CCDPC) is responsible for a dynamic portfolio of projects that facilitate healthy lifestyles for Marylanders with a focus on diabetes, heart disease, and stroke prevention. The Program Coordinator position will be located in Garrett County and will serve as an ambassador between CCDPC and the western regional local health departments (LHDs) and partners. The Program Coordinator will implement and evaluate programs and activities in the Western region, as well as align with statewide community-based programs, such as worksite initiatives and health system engagement. The incumbent will coordinate efforts with other programs within the CCDPC and serve as a health education consultant to the Western Maryland LHDs and community-based prevention and health promotion agencies. The Program Coordinator will promote evidence-based practices to improve population health and is responsible for sustainable community-based chronic disease prevention programming across the region, requiring representation and coordination with key stakeholders in both the public and private sectors.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Education, Community Health Education or Health Science.  A copy of your transcript must be attached to the application.

Experience: Two years of experience planning, developing, implementing, promoting and evaluating health education projects, including one year of experience managing community health education projects.

NOTES: 

1. Candidates may substitute a Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, Health Science, Public Health Policy or related behavioral science and one year of experience managing community health education projects for the required education and experience.

2. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Education, Community Health Education or Health Science and three years of experience planning, developing, implementing, promoting and evaluating health education projects, including one year of experience managing community health education projects for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, Health Science or related behavioral science and four years of experience planning, developing, implementing, promoting and evaluating health education projects, including one year of experience managing community health education projects for the required education and experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Health Educator and Community Health classifications or Health Educator and Community Health specialty codes in the Public Health field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate should have at least two years of experience implementing and evaluating public health programs.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
