Main Purpose of Job

A Chief Steward is to perform supervisory work in food storage. The position is responsible for the receiving, storing, processing and issuing of all food and related supplies in the dietary department of a large State institution.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four years of experience in large scale food preparation and/or storage in an institution, hotel, restaurant or similar organization. One year of this experience must have involved supervision of other employees.

Notes: 

1. Additional experience in food service may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the required education.

2.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in the Food Storage field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Possession of a Degree in nutritional care, culinary arts, food and restaurant management or related area.

The assessment will be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.  Please report all related experience and education.  Applicants who meet the Minimum Qualifications will be placed on the eligible list categorized as Qualified, Better Qualified, or Best Qualified.  Candidates shall be certified to the eligible list for a period of one year.  This list will be used by the DJS hiring agency to select employees. For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must accompany the application.  All information concerning your qualifications must be submitted by the closing date.  We will not consider information submitted after this date.
