Main Purpose of Job

*This job announcement will be used to fill two vacancies with the Maryland Department of Health's (MDH) Division of Cost Accounting and Reimbursements (DCAR). One position will be based at Spring Grove Hospital Center located in Catonsville, Maryland (Baltimore County). The other position will be based at Deer's Head Hospital Center located in Salisbury, Maryland (Wicomico County).*

The main purpose for these two positions will be to investigate for the maximum reimbursement of hospital costs for admissions to facilities associated with the Financial Agents Office, located on the campus of Spring Grove Hospital Center, with frequnt travel to other Financial Agent Office locations on an as-needed basis. This position will also investigate for eligibility and certify qualified applicants in the Maryland Medical Assistance Program. Additionally, this position will work to complete all required forms and/or reports associated with the investigations and rate setting in accordance with COMAR regulations and Title XVI of the Health and General Articles of the Annotated Code of Maryland. This position will also be responsible for following the State of Maryland procedures involving rate appeals and the referring of delinquent balances for abatement consideration or collections.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: None

Note: Experience in health care financing work on the life/health insurance fields in the investigation and/or adjustment of claims may be substituted at the rate of one year for 30 credit hours for up to 60 credit hours of the required education. ***A copy of your official or unofficial transcript(s) should accompany your completed application.***

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate for this position will possess experience in finance/billing, claims adjustments, agreeing and/or managing budgets.

In lieu of (or in addition to) the above-preferred qualifications, the preferred candidate may also possess experience in the areas of banking, customer service, quality control, office management, taxes, insurance, risk management, retirement, estate planning, and/or hospitality.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle, Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland, and to have access to a vehicle for daily use.
