LOCATION OF POSITION

MDH/Spring Grove Hospital Center, Rehabilitation Service Unit, Catonsville, Maryland

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position will be to direct the health education and wellness programs at Spring Grove Hospital Center (SGHC). The programmatic responsibility for this position would include planning, developing, implementing and/or evaluating health and wellness programs for the patients of SGHC, focusing on healthy lifestyles. The position will work in the areas of cardiovascular disease prevention, tobacco use prevention and/or cessation, stress management, as well as fitness/nutrition education. This position will also serve as the SGHC's health educator and work to coordinate health activities and/or wellness initiatives for patients and staff throughout the facility. Lastly, this position is considered Emergency Essential and is required to have and maintain a valid Maryland Driver's License and be able to drive a State vehicle, in accordance with State of Maryland policies and procedures for drivers of State vehicles.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Education, Community Health Education or Health Science.

Experience: One year of experience planning, developing, implementing, and promoting health education projects.

1. Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, Health Science or related behavioral science and two years of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects may be substituted for the required education and experience. ***A copy of your official or unofficial transcript(s) should accompany your completed application.***

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Educator and Community Health classifications or Health Educator and Community Health specialty codes in the Public Health field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
