Main Purpose of Job

To provide a highly skilled and versatile secretarial service for a highly technical law enforcement program. Services are provided to the program as a whole and assistance is provided to the program Chief and Assistant Chiefs, and occasionally the Field Supervisors.

POSITION DUTIES

Responsible under Section 11-204.7 Agriculture Article, Annotated Code of Maryland for data entry of: (A) Firms, (B) Weighing and measuring devices and (C) Fees into the weights and measures database. Issues registration applications and certificates for the device registration program. Makes corrections, additions and deletions to active accounts. Handles queries from the field staff and general public pertaining to the registration program.

Review and research investigative reports, inspection reports and other written documents. All incoming reports are data entered into the computer.

Types letters, memoranda and other written communications or documents. The correspondence is generally directed to manufactures, retailers, staff members and various other persons. The material typed is generally highly technical in nature and often confidential.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years performing secretarial or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes: 

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Administrative Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

One year of experience using both Oracle Systems and Microsoft SQL Server .

One year of experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a keyboard of a personal computer at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
