MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Completion of the eighth grade.
Experience: None
NOTE: Experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of English, spelling, punctuation, grammar and basic arithmetic
- Ability to learn to perform clerical tasks and basic office procedures
- Ability to learn to operate office equipment
- Ability to learn to update and maintain files, logs and other records
- Ability to learn to enter, retrieve and update information using computer software applications
- Ability to learn to screen and respond to telephone inquiries from visitors
- Ability to understand and follow instructions
- Ability to perform basis arithmetic computations
- Ability to communicate effectively with the general public, co-workers and supervisors
EXAMINATION PROCESS
Only applicants who meet the minimum and selective qualifications for this recruitment will be considered for this opportunity. The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience. It is essential that you submit complete and accurate information on your application in order to determine if you meet the qualifications as specified above. Due to the nature of this list, all qualified applicants are placed on an unranked list of candidates and will remain active on this list for at least one year.
Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six month probationary period. This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
BENEFITS
Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
