MDH, St. Mary's County Health Department, Leonardtown MD

Main Purpose of Job

This position will provide clerical support to the Environmental Health professional staff by utilizing multiple software platforms and complex scanning hardware. This position will provide general clerical support for various Environmental Health Programs such as: scanning, electronic file retrieval, data entry for report generating, typing and receipt monies collected for services provided. This position also provides clerical support to the Water Division by providing data entry of well permit applications, water sample results, receipt of monies, issuing permit numbers and preparing water letters for signature. This position will: log and track all animal bites for case management; liaise with contractors/public and provide clerical support for soils evaluation staff; receive, track and forward daycare applications to appropriate staff for review; and, address customer service needs by responding to inquiries and taking complaints and referring them to the appropriate staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Six months experience performing clerical duties in an office environment.

Notes: 1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate may be substituted for the required experience.

3. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired applicant should be able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, goal/solutions oriented work environment and possess experience working with customers at multiple levels, providing direct customer service.  The desired applicant should also have experience with data entry and using MS Office programs.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
