Maryland Department of Health, Office of Systems, Operations and Pharmacy (OSOP), Baltimore, MD

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide general administrative support with data entry, sorting, batching, logging and microfilming claims and mail in the Claims Control Section of Office of Systems Operations and Pharmacy (OSOP) claims processing/mail room division. The Claims Control Section is the point of entry for the over 11 million claims for Maryland Medicaid Professional fee for service claims processing. This employee is responsible for the day to day front end processing for data entry of claims, mail processing/batch control, batch storage/output distribution, microfilm/claims retrieval and FEDEX, UPS and USPS deliveries and pickups. Individuals must have knowledge and experience performing diverse clerical duties which support agency operations that require the review, verification and interpretation of information in order to make determinations and resolve problems in accordance with policies, regulations and laws applicable to agency programs. This employee must be able to determine if the appropriate billing methodologies were followed in accordance with Maryland Medicaid policies and procedures. Individuals must be able to perform data entry functions, assist with the storage area, and mail room duties, to include sorting, processing, filing medical claims invoices or other documents pertinent to agency programs, regulations and procedures. This person is the primary source for opening, sorting, batch control, data entry, scanning and microfilming claims. Staff are responsible for following the OSOP mail room policies and procedures as it relates to claims processing and mail desk standard operating procedures in accordance with Federal and State requirements and other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience performing clerical duties.

Notes:

1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

 2. Applicants may substitute education from an accredited college or university at the rate of thirty semester credit hours for one year of experience on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

 3. Six months clerical training with three courses in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, database, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette may be substituted for six months of the requires experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administrative classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the Clerical Support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred applicants will possess atleast:

  • 2 years of experience in a mailroom setting.
