Main Purpose of Job

A Social Worker I, Health Services is professional clinical social work at the intermediate level providing direct social work services. The main purpose of this position is to provide, under direct supervision, individual, family and group therapy and counseling in the treatment of serious emotional and behavioral problems in children, adolescents and their families, and some adults. This position provides assessment and evaluation with diagnosis for all assigned clients and makes referrals when indicated, formulates treatment plans with clients and family based on needs, and serves as a resource for community programs and in the development of policies and procedures that will impact service delivery. This position is designated emergency essential and limited to current Wicomico County Health Department employees only.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Determined by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners under the licensing requirements for Social Workers.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates must be licensed as a Graduate Social Worker or Certified Social Worker by the Maryland State Board of Social Work Examiners prior to appointment to a position in State service. Applicants who do not have a license may also apply pending receipt of the required license. When the license is obtained, submit a copy to the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Testing Unit.  A copy of your license must be attached to the application.

2. Candidates appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess an appropriate operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a temporary/contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
