Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to learn to provide analytical skills in the Physician Licensure Unit to ensure that initial applications for licensure and reinstatement applications are processed in a timely manner while assuring all applicants/licensees have met minimum qualifications according to the statue and regulations of Maryland. This position includes an evaluation of the applicants character and fitness for licensure. This position is responsible for learning to determine the eligibility of any initial Medical Licensure applications that are submitted to the Board of Physicians where the applicant answered 'Yes' to any of the 'Character and Fitness' questions. This position learns to prepare and present investigative findings and materials to the Board's Disciplinary Panel and the full Board meeting. This position also is responsible for learning to manage/analyze/process these applications from the initial licensure stage through final disposition by the Board. Lastly, this position is a full performance level of work conducting research into the educational, employment and personal history of applicants for medical licensure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in administrative or professional work. 

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular exercise of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate should be proficient in the use of Microsoft office; extremely detail-oriented and have good organizational skills.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
