Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is being responsible for processing licensure applications, verifications, and issuance of licensure by endorsement for registered nurses and licensed practical nurses. This position independently evaluates licensure qualifications, determines eligibility for licensure by endorsement and processes license verification of licensure data associated with the licensure by endorsement activity is carried out in an efficient, accurate timely manner. This position analyzes licensure data to assure nurses are in compliance with the Nurse Practice Act and Multistate Licensure Compact Rules, notifies nurses of failed licensure audits and discrepancies, corrects licensure information and make changes in licensure data base and the NCSBN licensure database (NURSYS). This position carries out the mission of the Board of Nursing to advance safe quality care in Maryland through licensure, and accountability for public protection.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 60 credit hours at an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two years of experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute experience as defined above at the rate of one year experience for 30 credit hours of education for up to 60 credit hours of the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university for the required education and experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The preferred candidate should have the following:

- Two or more years of administrative and customer service experience.

- Coordinating compact state licensure issues

-The ability to detect and reconcile discrepancies in records and to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
