Main Purpose of Job
A Community Health Educator III is the advanced level of work planning, developing, implementing, promoting and evaluating community health education programs designed to further public awareness and understanding of the factors influencing health status and community health activities and services. The Office of Oral Health (OOH) supports a comprehensive portfolio of programs and services to improve the oral health of Maryland residents through expanded service access and increased quality of care. The Regional Oral Health Coordinator (ROHC) will be part of a centralized state-level team with a common community-focused mission, engaged in intensive community outreach and network building. The incumbent will work in and foster dynamic interprofessional partnerships within local communities in order to implement an intensive approach to community outreach with the goal of integrating oral health care coordination into primary care and community organizations.
Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health Education, Community Health Education or Health Science. A copy of your transcript must be attached to the application.
Experience: Two years of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects.
1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, Health Science or related behavioral science and three years of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects for the required education and experience.
2. Candidates may substitute a Master’s degree in Public Health, Community Health Education, or Health Science for the required education and one year of the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute a Doctorate degree in Public Health, Community Health Education, Health Science or Public Health Policy for the required education and experience.
4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Educator and Community Health classifications or Health Educator and Community Health specialty codes in the Public Health field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant should have two years of experience planning, developing, implementing and promoting health education projects, preferably in an oral health setting.

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a temporary/contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
