Main Purpose of Job

To conduct all tasks associated with the internment of veterans and their dependents and the maintenance of cemetery grounds, buildings and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the sixth grade.

Experience: One year of experience in grounds keeping or buildings and grounds maintenance work.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in general maintenance classifications or cemetery caretaking specialty codes in the general maintenance field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience in grounds and building services work.

- Experience with power tools and various types of lawn equipment.

- Experience in the maintenance of various pieces of equipment, to include tractors, trucks, and light equipment.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be required to apply and store pesticides. Such employees shall use or apply pesticides in compliance with Maryland State pesticide regulations and licensing requirements.

For education obtained outside of the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must accompany the application.

Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year. The resulting certified eligible list for this recruitment may be used for similar positions in this or other State agencies.
