Introduction
The Maryland Historical Trust (MHT), an agency of the Maryland Department of Planning (MDP), is seeking an Inventory Registrar for its archives and library, the state’s principal repository for information about Maryland’s architectural, archeological, and cultural resources.
Included in the archives is the survey documentation for historic properties and archeological sites listed in the Maryland Inventory of Historic Properties (MIHP) which is a broad-based catalog of information on districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects of known or potential value to the prehistory, history, upland and underwater archeology, architecture, engineering, and culture of the State of Maryland.

Main Purpose of Job
The Inventory Registrar will have oversight of new research and field data in hard copy and electronic format, as well as existing files for some 45,000 historic buildings, will work with Medusa, Maryland’s online cultural resource information system as well as other electronic reporting systems and databases related to the MIHP.
This job requires extreme attention to detail, excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills and a strong interest in working collaboratively. Computer proficiency and demonstrated interpretive skills are essential.
POSITION DUTIES
Responsibilities will include:
Assigning an identifying number for each site and accepting inventory records for accessioning, cataloging and storage into the library.
Having daily contact with all MHT staff as well as external architectural surveyors, archeologists, preservation planners and local governments.
Provide reference service to staff, and assisting the Administrator of Library Services with patron services, especially help with the use of Medusa and access to paper inventory records.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
Experience: Three years experience in administrative or professional work.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
For those not using the experience substitution to meet the minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Art History, History, Historic Architecture, Folklore, American Studies, Anthropology, or other closely related field.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Our Preferred Candidate Will Have the Following:
Two years experience or internship in one of the following areas: Historic Preservation, Architectural History, Art History, History, Historic Architecture, Folklore, American Studies, Anthropology, or other closely related field.
Experience using current database management and electronic reporting systems, computerized file management, and digitization (scanning).
Experiential understanding or familiarity of the cultural areas and resources of the Middle Atlantic region.

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
