Immediate openings for seasonal Field Technicians in Prince George's, Anne Arundel and Baltimore Counties.

This is contractual employment and workers are paid for actual hours worked only.  Hours will vary, but full-time hours are generally available through much of the season depending on weather and other factors.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Immediate openings exist in Prince George's, Anne Arundel and Baltimore Counties.

Maryland Department of Agriculture, Mosquito Control Program.

Main Purpose of Job

Assist with surveillance and control of mosquito population in Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

Job duties may include:

  • Handling, mixing and applying pesticides
  • Mosquito collection
  • Field inspection
  • Record keeping
  • Driving spray truck

Involves contact with the public, exposure to biting/stinging insects, ticks, poison ivy, pesticides, extensive walking in suburban, wooded and wetland areas, and safe operation of department vehicles and equipment.  May be required to wear protective equipment.  Some shifts involve working evenings and early morning hours.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or GED required.  Minimum age 18.  Must possess a driver's license valid in Maryland, with no more than 5 points on driving record.

BENEFITS

Leave may be granted to a temporary/contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
