Main Purpose of Job
The Environmental Health Specialist Manager I (Oral Health Fluoridation Coordinator) serves as the state oral health fluoridation administrator. In particular, this position conducts feasibility studies, provides engineering design, estimates cost for fluoride product and system maintenance, educates and trains new water operators, provides bi-yearly education and training updates for all fluoride operators, and monitors fluoride levels in al fluoridating communities. The Oral Health Fluoridation Coordinator works with federal, state, and local agencies on issues pertaining to water fluoridation. This position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship.
Education: Determined by the Maryland Board of Environmental Health Specialists under the licensing requirements for Environmental Health Specialists.
Experience: Four years of experience performing inspections and investigations in the field of environmental health to ensure compliance including two years in a supervisory capacity.
1. A Master of Public Health or Master of Science degree from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Environmental Engineering classifications or Environmental Engineering specialty codes in the Engineering and Natural Resources field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate should possess experience in public health administration, environmental health, health services, or dental hygiene. A graduate degree or additional background experience in public health administration, environmental health, health services, dental hygiene, or a related field, is preferred.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Candidates for positions in these classifications must possess and maintain a current license as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist from the Maryland State Board of Environmental Health Specialists. A copy of your license must be attached to the application
2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required.

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
Leave may be granted to a temporary/contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
