POSITION DUTIES

This position is located in the Returns Processing Section of the Revenue Administration Division of the Comptroller's Office.

The incumbent of this position will manage the Returns Processing Section to ensure tax forms received from the taxpayers of Maryland are processed timely, efficiently, and effectively. This is accomplished through mentoring, coaching, and general oversight of staff assigned to four main units: Document Control, Data Capture, Error Correction, and Other Tax Types, which includes motor fuel and alcohol taxes. This position reports directly to an Assistant Director of the Revenue Administration Division. Available to work Monday through Friday in a full time capacity in the Revenue Administration Division's Annapolis Office.

PLEASE NOTE: Required hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with an hour lunch. Must be available to work overtime on Saturdays, holidays and other than normal work hours when needed. This position is designated as an Essential Emergency Personnel position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Possession of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four year college or university.

Experience:  At least three (3) years experience in an information technology, document processing, or other fast-paced work environment, with high volume production quotas and/or high quality production standards. At least three (3) years managerial experience, which includes organizing, leading, and managing multiple functions and tasks.  Experience with Microsoft Office or comparable programs.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with automated materials handling equipment, such as paper imaging systems or optical character readers.
  • Experience managing a large staff (25+ employees).
  • Ability to work under pressure or in situations where priorities change.
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a tax processing or preparation position.
  • Knowledge of federal and Maryland state tax laws and forms.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

  • Must be able to lift US Postal tubs filled with mail and boxed records (up to 35 lbs.)

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the selected candidate must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
