Main Purpose of Job

This position with the Intelligence Unit for the Intelligence and Investigative Division receives, analyzes, and disseminates actionable intelligence information to help ensure the safety of the DPSCS facilities, inmates, and staff, as well as, the public. The incumbent will serve under the mentorship of tenured analysts and the Lead Supervisor. After the completion of a probationary period and upon the review of the employees’ performance; consideration for other promotional opportunities may be determined.

POSITION DUTIES

Reviews sensitive information relative to suspected criminal activity within agency

Will be trained and mentored in various investigative processes

Assists in monitoring the phone calls placed to Contracted Service Employees’ phone numbers

Will receive instruction on the processes involved in querying the contact phone numbers of the employees in the inmate calling system and software link analysis system

Under the supervision of the tenured analysts, the employee will learn to respond to Requests for Information (RFI) in a timely manner and how to send referrals to both internal and external partners

Learns to conduct vetting’s for both detainees requesting work detail positions within the facilities as well as current DPSCS employees requesting new assignment or promotion

Learns to assist investigators in conducting background checks for new employees, listening to inmate phone calls, providing analytical support to DPSCS facilities and partnering with law enforcement agencies

Performs other related duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

1 year of work experience collecting, analyzing, assessing and interpreting criminal data

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are preferred, not required:

A Degree in Criminal Justice, Research Analysis or Intelligence

Work experience using Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS), Offender Case Management System (OCMS), and/or Maryland Dashboard

 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
