Main Purpose of Job
This position is responsible for the overall operation of the Housekeeping Department reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. In addition to planning, directing, and coordination of the Department, this position will be held responsible for insuring that the patient living and treatment areas are maintained in accordance to Licensing and Joint Commission standards for patient care which far exceeds the standards for office complexes.
The Comprehensive Maintenance and Repair Program manual, issued by the Department of General Services, recognizes that this position is responsible for: (1) assuring that the building area are maintained at the prescribed cleaning service level (about 70% of the building is complex space with heavy activities, per DGS); (2) conducting periodic building cleaning surveys verifying current workload requirements; (3) planning and scheduling all necessary cleaning operations; (4) maintaining an adequate stock of cleaning materials and supplies; (5) the maintenance of cleaning equipment and repair/replacement of defective items; (6) inspection of work to assure that the cleaning operations are being performed satisfactorily and as scheduled; and, (7) working with the Procurement Officer in procuring supplies and equipment.
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Eight (8) years of experience in a large scale housekeeping operation at a school, hospital or other institution; four (4) years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
Notes: 1. Candidates may substitute additional supervisory level experience on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in Equipment, Facilities, and Services classifications or Equipment, Facilities, and Services specialty codes in the Equipment, Facilities, and Services Group field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education, four years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The desired applicant should have experience in building maintenance, preferably housekeeping, in a healthcare setting. The desired applicant should also have experience monitoring, reviewing and supervising housekeeping operations and other building related responsibilities.
Employees in this classification may be required to work on Saturdays, Sundays, or holidays. Employees required to work on those days will receive compensatory time off.
