The Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) is accepting applications from all qualified applicants for the position of Job Service Specialist III. There is 1 position located in Columbia, MD.

Main Purpose of Job

Conducts reemployment workshops for profiled claimants to enhance job seeking skills and to shorten the duration of unemployment. Conduct eligibility reviews for UI claimants and make appropriate referrals for adjudication.

POSITION DUTIES

Purpose of this position is to plan job search workshops of not less than six hour duration for profiled claimants and other job seekers. Prepare and organize materials used in presentation and workshops. Update presentation materials as needed. Conduct job search workshops in a classroom setting on a weekly basis to improve participants job search skills and enhance employability. Update and record required data on each participant using the workforce database. Conduct follow-up with participants.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience in the field of workforce development involving conducting interviews with persons seeking employment and providing assistance to employers needing qualified personnel to fill vacancies.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in workforce development taking job orders from employers, conducting job-ready interviews, registering job applicants, verifying job referrals, conducting vocational placements, performing unemployment adjudications, or appraising job applicants for employability may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Education at an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience at the rate of thirty credit hours for each year of experience for up to two years of experience.

3. Active duty military recruiting experience or career counseling experience may be substituted on a year-by-year bases for the required education or experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must meet the selective qualification(s) to be considered. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications:

One year of experience delivering/facilitating presentations to groups in a professional setting.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualification(s).

1. One year of knowledge and/or experience of Workforce Development Programs and Unemployment Assistance Programs.  

2. Experience utilizing presentation software in a professional setting.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (DLLR/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to DLLR/SUI as a result of an unemployment insurance and/or fraud. Any Unpaid debt may have an impact on whether or not a candidate is offered employment.
