Main Purpose of Job
Within the Maryland Department of Health's Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control (CCDPC), the Data and Evaluation Team supports the development and implementation of effective chronic disease prevention and control programs by serving as a respected source of information and guidance for all data-related needs. As a member of this team, this position will support state and local chronic disease initiatives by providing high quality surveillance and statistical data analysis. This position will oversee data collection efforts, as well as manage data analysis, to assess population health statuses, trends and disparities.
In addition, this position will be responsible for communicating data in a variety of formats for a variety of audiences, including developing reports, presentations and other documents. This position will provide data-informed programmatic recommendations to senior CCDPC and CCD Bureau leadership, as well as assist in the development and evaluation of chronic disease prevention and control measures. Finally, this position will recommend and conduct investigations and special studies, indicated from data analyses.
Focus areas for this work include (but are not limited to): heart disease, stroke, diabetes, obesity, nutrition, physical activity, arthritis, and hypertension.
Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university, with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics. A copy of your graduate transcripts (official or unofficial) must accompany your application.
Experience: Two years of experience in designing and conducting epidemiological studies and investigations for disease surveillance as an Epidemiologist, subsequent to receipt of the Master’s degree.
Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a Commissioned Officer in Health Care Science classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work, on a year-for-year basis, for the required experience and education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The desired candidate should be proficient in SAS software and have experience in preparing chronic disease data and analysis for reports, presentations and other documents.
