Main Purpose of Job
A Health Aide is the full performance level of work assisting in the health care of clients. This position will assist the school nurse in providing a variety of health-related services in a school setting. Duties may include first aid and sick care to injured or ill students, and administering medications to students according to established policy and procedure. This position will also perform clerical duties such as documenting appropriately utilizing standard forms and format, review and maintaining health records and entering data.
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Applicants may substitute experience assisting in the health care of clients in a health setting for the required education on a year-for-year basis for up to four years of the required education.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current certificate as a Nursing Assistant from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215. Persons appointed to a position in this classification without certification as a Nursing Assistant must successfully complete a Board of Nursing approved nursing assistant training program and receive certification as a Nursing Assistant within sixty days from date of hire prior to performing delegated nursing tasks. Appointees failing to successfully complete this requirement will not be retained in these positions. A copy of your certificate must be attached to the application.
2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
3. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete training and maintain current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
4. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete training and maintain current certification in basic first aid.

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
