POSITION DUTIES

The Comptroller of Maryland's Information Technology Division team is looking for an individual with strong technical abilities to provide advanced infrastructure delivery of Windows based servers and supporting infrastructure. This incumbent of this position will be responsible for:

  • Effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure
  • Participating in technical research and development to enable continuing innovation within the infrastructure
  • Ensuring that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational standards
  • Performing daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes
  • Reviewing system and application logs; verifies completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
  • Investigating and troubleshooting issues
  • Appling OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis
  • Upgrading administrative tools and utilities
  • Configuring and adding new services as necessary
  • Performing periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning
  • Performing ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required

PLEASE NOTE: ITD is responsible for the 24x7x365 support for ADC mainframe, distributed systems, and networks. All ITD employees are available for on-call support. As such, this position is required to occasionally work an off-hour schedule, weekdays prior to 7:30 a.m. and / or after 5:00 p.m., weekends, and holidays.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems or other information technology-related field to include coursework in application, communication, database or operating systems software technology.

Experience: Three years of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining application, communication, database or operating systems software.

NOTES:

  1. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Technology, Management Information Systems or other information technology-related field to include coursework in application, communication, database or operating systems software technology may be substituted for the required education.
  2. Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and one additional year of experience designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining application, communication, database or operating systems software may be substituted for the required education. 
  3. Experience operating computer systems; or scheduling, controlling input and output to process data on computer systems; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software; or converting data from project specifications by developing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages may be substituted for high school education on a year- for-year basis.
  4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in the Computer Systems Operations classifications or Computer Systems Operations specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with IBM San Storage
  • Experience/Certification in Windows Server 2016
  • Experience with Microsoft Hyper-V
  • Experience with Microsoft System Center Suite

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Only applicants who meet the minimum and selective qualifications for this recruitment will be considered for this opportunity. The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience. Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the employee must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986. Upon initial appointment OR promotion to a position in the State Personnel Management System, an employee is required to serve an initial six month probationary period. This probationary period may be extended an additional six months under certain circumstances at the discretion of the appointing authority.
