POSITION DUTIES

This position is assigned to the Revenue Accounting Section of the Revenue Administration Division of the Comptroller of Maryland (Annapolis Location).

The incumbent provides managerial oversight of the operations of the Revenue Accounting Section which includes supervision and oversight of applicable staff. The duties of this position include responsibility for: accounting, reporting, posting, reconciliation and distribution of tax receipts collected by the Division; preparing monthly and annual revenue reconciliation statements in accordance with the applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; preparation of annual fiscal year end close-out schedules; and may serve on various Comptroller work groups related to the collection and reporting of tax receipts.

PLEASE NOTE:  Selected candidate must be available to work between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday-Friday. During personal income tax filing season (Jan-June), evening hours may be required. Limitation of leave requests during the same period.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Six years progressive supervisory/ managerial experience in accounting or finance related functions, which include the following:assigning and reviewing work; training; disciplining, hiring, promoting, recommending termination; and administering performance plans and reviews.

Six years experience in examining, analyzing and interpreting accounting systems, records and reports by applying generally accepted accounting principles including preparing accounting or financial related reports.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active CPA license.
  • Experience with government accounting or auditing.
  • Experience communicating results of financial reporting to senior management.
  • Experience in interpreting State tax laws, rules, regulations, standards, forms, policies and procedures or preparation of tax returns.
  • Knowledge of computer assisted processing systems used in analyzing data, selecting and sorting data, performing calculations, and/or selecting audit samples.
  • Knowledge and experience with tax processing systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with personal computer applications, specifically Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the selected candidate must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
