Main Purpose of Job

The main functions is to perform independently moderately complex tasks in maintenance and making minor repairs or improvements to buildings, fixtures, mechanical equipment, grounds and roadways. Ground maintenance includes grass cutting, trimming and snow removal. Cleans, maintains and services State Buildings. Collects, recycles and disposes of trash and other items. Clean floors, halls and stairways; shampoos and vacuums rugs, carpets and upholstered furniture; cleans and disinfects restrooms and replaces supplies; dusts cleans and make minor repairs to furniture; load and u load supplies and equipment from trucks, move furniture and equipment and set up chairs and tables for meetings and special events.

POSITION DUTIES

Maintain, shampoo and clean carpeted areas.

Ensure that all interior walls and surfaces are washed, dried and free of dirt and streaks.

Remove large debris and vacuum daily.

Dust mop, wet mop and periodically strip and wax floors.

Remove all trash daily and take to dumpster.

Clean floors, toilets, urinals, showers, mirrors and sinks.

Maintain, mow, edge and trim the exterior grounds and trees.

Assist in maintenance projects.

Education: None.

Experience: None.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
