Main Purpose of Job

This is a contractual service maintenance position responsible for processing all incoming mail and parcels for the Maryland State Department of Education headquarters offices; inputs mail management system data and generates daily and monthly reports; performs routine equipment repairs and services and contacts vendors to obtain service repair information; orders, receives, stocks, and dispenses all stock items for the central supply center; assists in providing duplicating services and performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

POSITION DUTIES

Order supply items from the appropriate vendors for the central supply room of the headquarters building. Issue supplies as requested by headquarters staff via completing the MSDE online supply request. Maintain stock of the supply items on the appropriate shelves for the proper inventory control and reorder. Process all incoming mail and parcels for MSDE headquarters office; inputs mail management system data and generates daily and monthly reports; performs routine equipment repairs and services and contacts vendors to obtain service repair information; assist in providing duplicating services; serves as back-up and assists in serving as department receptionist, direct calls and visitors to the department and performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: None.

Experience: Six months of experience performing stockroom work to include receiving, storing and issuing supplies, materials and equipment.

 

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a current motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the state of Maryland.  

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and push a supply cart without assistance

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees appointed to positions in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your training and experience as presented on your application and as they relate to the requirements of the position. Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified and placed on the employment eligible list for at least one year. BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.  

Leave may be granted to a temporary/contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
