Introduction
This is a position specific recruitment for the Maryland Department of the Environment. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies for the position/function only. The resulting cert list will be maintained for one year. Person's interested in future vacancies within this classification must re-apply.
This is a entry level position; therefore, the selected candidate will be offered the base salary. Progression in the current position will be based upon the approval of annual increments and/or cost of living adjustments.

Main Purpose of Job
This is an entry level Engineer position. The main purpose of this position is to protect State water quality standards and implement the requirements of the federal Clean Water Act by writing wastewater discharge permits, implementing Total Maximum Daily Loads (TMDL), and managing the associated permit issuance process including preparing fact sheets, public notices and written responses to comments, meeting with applicants and interested parties, conducting and participating in public meetings, and participating in contested case hearings.
The incumbent of this position will perform site visits to wastewater treatment facilities on an occasional basis.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.
Experience: None
Notes:
1. A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 20 credits in engineering and two years performing engineering or architectural work in pollution control, waste remediation, resource conservation, environmental protection, public health and safety, or related areas may be substituted for the engineering degree.
2. Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements may be substituted for the education requirement.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Engineering and Architecture classifications or Engineering and Architecture specialty codes in the Environmental field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

Please note that you will be required by the appointing agency to provide proof upon hire of all certifications, licenses, educational and work experiences.
