Main Purpose of Job

The Anne Arundel County Department of Health is a comprehensive local health department with a staff of 700 and an annual budget of approximately $62 million.  The Health Officer provides guidance, direction and oversight to public health programs affecting the County.  Programs include Disease Prevention, Environmental Health, Behavioral Health, School Health, and Family Health.  The Health Officer assesses community health needs, plans and develops programs, enforces County and State laws and ordinances and acts as spokesperson on public health issues for the County in coordination with the Maryland Department of Health.  This position serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.  For more information on the Department’s programs and services visit: www.aahealth.org.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must posses a degree in medicine from an accredited college or university, a master’s degree in public health and have two years of experience as a licensed physician working in the field of public health. 

Applicants may substitute five years of experience as a licensed physician working in the field of public health for the requirement of a master’s degree in public health and two years as a licensed physician working in the field of public health.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

SELECTION PROCESS

This is a Management Service position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.  A resume must accompany your application.

The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position. Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.  Please report all related education, experience, dates and hours of work. Clearly indicate your college degree and major on your application, if applicable. For education obtained outside the U.S., any job offer will be contingent on the candidate providing an evaluation for equivalency by a foreign credential evaluation service prior to starting employment (and may be requested prior to interview). Complete applications must be submitted by the closing date. Information submitted after this date will not be added. Candidates may remain on the certified eligible list for a period of at least one year.
