Main Purpose of Job
The Department of Natural Resources, Engineering & Construction Unit, is currently accepting applications for an Agency Project Engineer/Architect Lead, under the direction of the Critical Maintenance Chief. This position is the full performance level of maintenance engineering work, providing the technical design, procurement services and inspection of systems and utilities related to the maintenance of the buildings and grounds owned by the Department of Natural Resources.
Candidates should be able to provide construction management and inspection services necessary for the successful completion of major maintenance projects. This may include developing project justifications, cost estimates and written specifications for the procurement of major construction services and materials to repair, renovate or replace buildings and facilities. This position may prepare scopes of work for obtaining the services of engineers to design projects then work to complete the project.
This position will be responsible for critical maintenance and major repair projects, within the Department of Natural Resources system statewide. Will meet with agency representatives at various Department of Natural Resources facilities to inspect and evaluate the conditions of the infrastructure, to identify problems and necessary critical maintenance requirements while providing detailed reports to improve overall efficiency of the structure.
This position will provide guidance, leadership and training to facility staff and other Project Engineers engaged in multi-disciplinary projects that require the expertise of more than one Engineer. Reviews and corrects the deficiencies in written specifications prepared by Maintenance Supervisors and Project Engineers, prior to bidding to ensure that they are sufficiently adequate and accurate to solicit responsive bids.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Three years of experience as a design and project manager engineer or architect for agency capital and operating construction, maintenance and system services projects.
Notes: 1. Additional experience as an engineer or architect in the building construction field involving the design, construction or repair of building structures or system services may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
2. Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements may be substituted for the required education and experience.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Engineering and Architecture classifications or Engineering and Architecture specialty codes in the Architecture field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
