Main Purpose of Job

This position will provide administrative support to the Executive and Deputy Directors of the Office of Personnel Services and Benefits (OPSB) who oversee and support agency efforts in providing personnel services to State employees and retirees. The ideal candidate will be flexible, able to work independently and have the ability to interact and communicate with a strong degree of judgment and discretion.  The ideal candidate also should have outstanding written and oral communication skills and be able to maintain confidentiality.  A solution oriented and positive “can do” attitude is a must.   Some examples of work include, but are not limited to:  

Composing routine and complex correspondence for the Executive Director, as well as assembling, compiling and summarizing data into a concise form and preparing reports utilizing Microsoft Word and Excel, as necessary;  

Finalizing outgoing correspondence regarding personnel issues for the Governor’s Office, acting as intermediary for the Executive Director in maintaining contact with professional staff, union officials, public executives, other State employees, and members of the public;  

Maintaining the Executive and Deputy Directors’ calendars in Google and scheduling meetings;  

Leading and advising other clerical staff in OPSB units as appropriate; and  

Maintaining the Executive Office’s paper and electronic files and records.  

This is a political special appointment position that will serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority.  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.   

Experience: Two years performing administrative or secretarial work in support of a management-level.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Gmail.

Successful candidates will be ranked as Best Qualified, Better Qualified, or Qualified and placed on the employment (eligible) list for at least one year.
