Main Purpose of Job

This position provides training and supervision to an inmate work force managing mailing and distribution, production of MVA registrations and mailing & managing the distribution of license plates for the MVA and the Data Entry department.

POSITION DUTIES

Production/Training:

  • Responsible for assigned production process operating with full independence and reviewing the work of trainees.
  • Trains inmate workers in proper methods of a specified service.
  • Supervises the production of Data Entry Clerks to include training in accordance with customer specifications and proper paperwork procedures.
  • Develop set up systems, procedures and related equipment needed for the fulfillment of services for customers.
  • Train inmate workers in proper use of equipment.
  • Responsible for reviewing inmate worker progress and proposing pay raises when applicable.
  • Must be able to produce jobs as specified in customer purchase orders.

Safety and Security:

Incumbent should be fully versed in all related safety procedures.  These duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Trains and instructs inmates in Fire Safety, Equipment Safety, and Personal Safety as related to their trade.
  • Responsible for completing daily traffic sheets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience in commercial mailing operations to include; large and small package distribution, bar code application, high volume print operations, mail house operations such as pick/pack and ship, mail, sorting, mail stuffing operations and equipment.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Access) 

Specialized software used in mailing operations is a plus (Satori system)

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees MUST successfully complete a background investigation.

Employees who have not already done so must complete and successfully pass the Entrance Level Correctional Training Course required for the Maryland Correctional Training Commission certificate during the probationary period.

Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
