Main Purpose of Job

This is a contractual, professional position responsible for conducting Child Nutrition Program reviews and providing technical assistance and training to Sponsoring Agencies and Institutions.

POSITION DUTIES

Assesses compliance with federal and State regulations by reviewing programs of institutions, sponsoring agencies and facilities that participate in Maryland Child Nutrition Programs in schools, day care centers, institutions, and other similar sites; conducts nutrient analyses of menus; completes written reports and presentations that identify problems or indicate compliance or non-compliance; provides technical assistance to sponsor and site personnel for improving food service quality and program operations by identifying training needs and conducting training sessions; conducts administrative and professional development training sessions. The general area of coverage includes the entire State of Maryland.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: A Master’s Degree or equivalent 36 credit hours of post-baccalaureate course work in Health Science, Food Service Administration, Consumer Science, Dietetics, Nutrition, Public Health, Public/Business Administration or a related area.

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of professional experience in nutrition program administration, coordination or management, or a related area. Experience in Child Nutrition Programs or teaching consumer sciences. Registered Dietitian is desirable.  

NOTE:   Two years of additional experience as defined above may be substituted for the Master’s degree.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of federal laws and regulations governing food service and School and Community Nutrition Programs; knowledge of United State Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations; knowledge of food safety, menu planning, food production; skill in organizing, developing, and conducting training programs; skill in developing and interpreting  policies and procedures, assess programs, identify problems, and determine improvements/solutions; ability to organize and manage multiple tasks; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to work as a team member; ability to demonstrate nutrient analysis and other software application skills.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Proof of eligibility to work in compliance with the Immigration Reform and Control Act and travel throughout the state are required.  Any misrepresentation of academic or experience requirements for this position may result in non-selection or termination of employment.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.

Leave may be granted to a temporary/contractual employee who has worked 120 days in a 12 month period. This leave accrues at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, not to exceed 40 hours per calendar year.
