Introduction
The Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) oversees and coordinates all components of the statewide EMS system in accordance with Maryland statute and regulation. This includes planning, operations, evaluation, and research. In addition, MIEMSS provides leadership and medical direction, conducts and supports EMS educational programs, operates and maintains a statewide communications system, designates trauma and specialty centers, licenses and regulates commercial ambulance services, and participates in EMS-related public education and prevention programs.
MIEMSS provides the executive support for the EMS Board in reviewing and approving the budgets for agencies receiving funds from the EMS Operations Fund, developing and promulgating regulations for protocols, proposing EMS system legislation, licensing/certifying and disciplining EMS providers, and conducting other EMS Board business. MIEMSS also provides the administrative and staff support for the Statewide EMS Advisory Council (SEMSAC) and five EMS regional councils.

Main Purpose of Job
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Eight years of experience in emergency medical services, health care field operations, or in the capacity of health care provider, two years of the required experience must include direct supervision of personnel.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualifications.
- Possession of a Master's degree.
- Licensure as a Maryland paramedic with significant EMS operations and administration experience.
- Strong interpersonal, conflict resolution, organization, and leadership skills.
- Successful completion of the following Incident Management System (IMS) courses: 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800.
- Successful completion of courses in infectious disease and Haz-Mat Operations.
