Main Purpose of Job
This position functions as the sole nursing leadership position in the Department's/State's only maximum security forensic behavioral health hospital. As such, it provides leadership in the establishment of the facilities nursing practices to ensure quality outcomes for the patient and expertise in clinical nursing practices with attention to safety and security of patients and staff in this unique environment.
The main purpose of this position is to provide clinical and managerial supervision of Nursing Staff. This is a 298 bed facility for psychiatric patients admitted to the Maryland Department of Health. There are twelve units providing psychiatric assessment, reassessment, and treatment with medical care of somatic illness as necessary.
Qualified applicants must possess a master's degree in nursing related field from an accredited college or university and five years of psychiatric nursing experience (as a registered nurse) of which at least three years must have been in a supervisory, teaching or administrative capacity. Qualified candiates must possess a license as a Registered Nurse by the Maryland Board of Nursing. A copy of your current RN license must accompany application.
A bachelor's degree in nursing or related field from an accredited college or university, together with seven years of psychiatric nursing experience (as a registered nurse) of which at least five years must have been in a supervisory, teaching or administrative capacity is also qualifying. A Ph.D. in nursing from an accredited college or university may be substituted for two years of general experience.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215. A copy of your license, license verification or license number and expiration date must be attached to your application.
This is a Management Service position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority. A copy of your resume must accompany your application.
