LOCATION OF POSITION
This position is assigned to the Maryland Department of Health’s (MDH) Cecil County Health Department. The Department is located in Elkton, in Cecil County, Maryland, mid-way between Baltimore City and Philadelphia, PA, with a three-mile proximity to I-95. Cecil County has a population of approximately 103,000.
Main Purpose of Job
The Health Officer is the executive officer of the Cecil County Health Department, leading a staff of 150 employees and administering an agency budget in excess of $10M. The position directs and oversees public health programs impacting the County’s population. Program services include addictions; behavioral health; health education and promotion; environmental health; personal health; maternal and child health; family planning; communicable disease control and prevention; and emergency preparedness and response planning. The Health Officer assesses community health needs, plans and develops programs, enforces County and State laws and ordinances, and acts as the spokesperson on public health issues for the County in coordination with the Maryland Department of Health. The ideal candidate will work closely with Cecil County Government and community stakeholders to address the County’s serious public health challenges, in particular the opioid crisis.
Master's degree in Public Health
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the field of public health;
Minimum of five (5) years of work experience in the field of public health
