Introduction

The Maryland Department of Commerce is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Coordinator, Office of BioHealth and Life Sciences (Industrial Development Officer II) within the Division of Business and Industry Sector Development - Office of BioHealth and Life Sciences.

 This is a Special Appointment position, and serves at the pleasure of the Appointing Authority.

Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for assisting and conducting customer and stakeholder outreach for Maryland's BioHealth and Life Sciences industry.

POSITION DUTIES

The position provides programmatic support for the Senior Director and business unit team members focused on the development of systemic improvement of strategies for the State and individual needs. Other activities and responsibilities include the implementation of broad-based policy development, intra and interagency coordination, systems development, business development and innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem development.  The position supports efforts to enhance the economic viability of the State’s biohealth and life science companies including, among other initiatives: conducting research, developing reports and collateral materials and assisting with the development of materials designed to communicate the Department’s message relative to supporting the industry, workforce, academic partnerships, innovation, entrepreneurship and assistance with industry and industry startups.  This position also assists in the coordination and administration of meetings, national and international conference opportunities, and other tax credit and financing programs managed and supported by the Maryland Department of Commerce.  

The selected employee will possess excellent interpersonal skills to work with high level public and private sector officials and maintain effective working relationships; excellent written and oral communication skills; the ability to handle multiple, concurrent and high priority projects and possess proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite for Windows including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, Google Mail and/or other relevant software.   Statewide travel is required, as is, attendance at out of State conferences.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Bioscience, Business, Marketing, or a related industry field, AND

Experience: Two (2) years of experience in business or economic development; marketing; planning; or related field.

Equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrated knowledge of and work experience in biohealth life science, health care or other similar industries.
