TREE FARM INTERNSHIP

Introduction

This is a paid internship within the Department of Natural Resources, Forest Service, which will provide valuable work experience in project involvement, activities and/or research sufficient to justify the award of course credit. The internship period will take place from September 2018 through December 2018. The internship will be part-time, and work at least 16 hours/week, with flexible work days. Specific start date, end date, and schedule will be determined in collaboration between the intern and supervisor based upon mutual needs.  

LOCATION OF POSITION

The primary office location for this position is 580 Taylor Avenue, Annapolis, Maryland with occasional travel to the State Archives.

Main Purpose of Job

This position will be funded by a grant from the American Forest Foundation's American Tree Farm System. The goal of the grant is to ensure historic Tree Farm System records, photos, and other relevant materials possessed by the DNR are cataloged and stored in such a way they can be easily accessed and utilized. The intern will catalog Tree Farm System materials from Maryland Forest Service offices, may work closely with Maryland State Archives staff, and may research additional Tree Farm System related items currently stored in the State Archives for use by the Maryland Tree Farm Committee. The intern may also provide additional support to the Maryland Forest Service on American Tree Farm System related projects, as time and funding provide.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must be currently enrolled at an accredited college or university.

Must be able to commit to a minimum of 16 hours per week and have reliable transportation.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will be working toward a degree in library science or history or completion of 18 hours of course work toward a degree in library science or history, or closely related field. 

Experience archiving or cataloging items, use of a copier and scanning equipment, website development, are desired, but not required.

Upon selection, the intern will be required to sign an agreement and may be required to provide proof of intern credit.
