Main Purpose of Job

This position serves as the Physician Director of the Behavioral Health Administration's (BHA) Office of Child, Adolescent and Young Adult Services. The Director utilizes medical and clinical expertise; coordinates and monitors the State-wide continuum of BHA services for children, adolescents, and young adults; plans and develops new service programming; collaborates with other child, adolescent and young adult service agencies, including the Children's Cabinet, in developing an integrated, child and family centered service delivery system and system of care; and, provides specialized, clinical, consultative and research service to BHA and other youth service agencies. This position provides administrative, clinical and consultative behavioral health services to child, adolescent and young adult programs of BHA and supervises the Chief Executive Officers of the two Regional Institutes for Children and Adolescents (RICA), which provide residential treatment and education programs to children and adolescents up to age 18.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Physicians under the licensing requirements for Physicians.

Experience: As required for certification in Psychiatry by the American Medical Association Specialty Board or other Board approved by the Maryland Board of Physicians.

 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate will have experience in the treatment of children and adolescents in behavioral health care which includes program management and supervision of clinical and administrative staff.   In addition, candidate will have knowledge of Maryland's public behavioral health system of care to children and adolescents including inpatient psychiatric services and Medicaid.  Experience with data driven decision making, clinical research methodology, and financial management including value based contracting is also desirable.  

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Applicants must be board certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Medical Specialties, or other Board approved by the Maryland Board of Physicians.

2. Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of a current Maryland medical license and board certification should be attached to the application.
